The Cancer Support Center of Maine
provides free services to cancer patients, survivors, and people at
risk in Maine through education, outreach, advocacy, and social
support. It helps clients navigate the often complex and confusing
bureaucracy of health management in a time of crisis with an emphasis
on free or reduced cost programs.
Cochrane Collaboration and the Cochrane Library
The
Cochrane Collaboration is an international not-for-profit organization,
providing up-to-date information about the effects of health care.
Systematic reviews are their main product and are published
electronically in successive issues of The Cochrane Library.
Although it requires a paid subscription to access the Cochrane
Library's extensive reviews and resources, free summaries of studies on

Bridging The Gap (BTG) is a program funded by a grant from Susan G. Komen for the Cure - Maine Affiliate. BTG
provides breast health exams and imaging to women ages 30-39 who are at
high risk or have symptoms of concern. Women in their 20's with
symptoms concerning them can also receive services at no cost. Women
must qualify financially and be underinsured or uninsured. If you are a
woman between 20 and 39 years old, and are concerned about your breast
health, call Caring Connections at 941-2808.
Bridging Books
is a project that provides resource and information packets to women
newly diagnosed with breast cancer. Over 40 surgeons in Eastern and
Northern Maine give a packet containing a foundation book and other
resource materials to women on the day of diagnosis. Bridging Books is
funded by the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation - Maine
Affiliate. Bridging Books provided resource packets to more than 300
women in eight counties last year.
ENCOREplus is a national YWCA program designed to assist women diagnosed with breast cancer. ENCOREplus
offers a safe environment of support and understanding for women with
questions and concerns that accompany a diagnosis of breast cancer.
ENCOREplus groups meet regularly in Bangor, and also in
Calais, Dover-Foxcroft, Ellsworth, Millinocket, Pittsfield and Presque
Isle. Call Caring Connections for meeting times and contact information

The
Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program (MBCHP) is a state and
federally funded program which provides free screening for the early
detection of breast and cervical cancer. A woman is eligible for the
MBCHP if she is between 40 and 64*; has no insurance or insurance with
limited coverage or high deductibles; and her income falls within the
MBCHP guidelines. * (MBCHP also provides funding for qualified women ages
35-39.) For those women who qualify, the MBCHP will pay for annual
mammograms, breast exams, Pap tests, pelvic exams (internal exams), and
limited diagnostic and follow-up services. For more information, go to

NBCC's founding in 1991, it has changed the world of breast cancer: in
public policy, science, industry and advocacy by creating new
partnerships, collaborations, research funding opportunities and
avenues for access to quality care. The National Breast Cancer

If your sister had breast cancer, then the Sister Study needs your help. Click here
to learn more about this important study sponsored by the National
Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. The study will recruit
50,000 women, ages 35-74, whose sisters have had breast cancer. The
researchers are particularly interested in recruiting more senior women
and women from minority groups.
