What is the Support Service Fund? The fund provides underserved residents of Maine with financial assistance for breast health or breast cancer related services.
What kinds of services or items does the fund cover? The
fund covers a wide range of items and services. It has covered
mammograms and ultrasound, hospital bills, physician bills, bras and
protheses, wigs, prescriptions, lymphedema therapy and compression
garments, genetic testing, transportation costs, and temporary living
expenses for people in active breast cancer treatment, to list a few.
Are there income limits to qualify for a grant? There are no specific income requirements, but you must demonstrate financial need.
How are applications reviewed? The
Support Service Fund committee reviews each request promptly. The items
or services requested, financial need, and required documentation are
all considered according to established criteria and individual
situations.

How is the Support Service Fund funded? The Support Service Fund is currently supported by generous contributors including Susan G. Komen For the Cure: Maine Affiliate, the Maine Cancer Foundation,
the Borman Family Foundation, the York Hospital Breast Cancer
Survivors’ Group, the Greater Bangor Women’s Ski/Snowboard Club, the
Fraternal Order of Eagles Pink Sock Foundation, many Maine Fraternal Order of Eagles Clubs, including Brewer, Rumford, and Lewiston Clubs, PATCO Construction,
Lavalley Lumber, Stonewall Kitchen, Inverness Medical Innovations, dedicated fundraisers
by organizations and businesses, individual contributions by members
and supporters of MBCC, and the many hours donated to administration of
the fund by the Support Service Fund Committee.
